Make Gothenburg a sharing city!
We want to explore how to make Gothenburg a sharing city. And we want you to help. We begin with our closest surroundings: the neighbourhood. This autumn you can become one of 30 students helping the City of Gothenburg to create and implement new solutions for neighbourhood sharing. How can we make it easier for residents to share, fix and reuse what we already have? Find new ways to meet and reshape the image of attractive design and consumption?
You will be part of a team of 2-5 students from different academic backgrounds working together in one a specific mission provided by a major municipal real-estate company. The missions will take 15-20 hours per month during a 1-3 month period, depending on the mission. Read more about the missions below!
We are looking for students from all academic disciplines. The major challenge is to design, plan and implement ’sharing spaces’ – facilities in which tenants can share, swap, fix or redesign their stuff. This will require team members from different disciplines – not only design and architecture, but also social sciences, business administration, human geography and more. There are also other, smaller missions, where we are looking for suitable students. Read all about it here.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet new contacts and get new experiences and, above all, to make real, tangible difference. Check out how it works and apply before September 25th!
PS. On October 5th 13-16.30, we will kick-start the project with a workshop in redesign! Make sure to reserve the time in your calendar!
The Missions
Mission: Design and prepare a space for sharing, fixing, swapping and reuse.
Client: Bostadsbolaget
In the district of Rannebergen there is a facility previously used as a reuse/redesign space, some 10 years ago. The venue contains four rooms and a kitchen and is estimated at 65 square meters. One of the rooms has a simple work bench installed and would be suitable as a small workshop.
Bostadsbolaget now wants help to turn the facility into a space to promote reuse, redesign, sharing and swopping among residents in the area. Your mission will be to design, prepare and plan the operation of the venue. As the venue is relatively large there are opportunities for many types of activities. For example a pool to share tools, sports equipment and more, workshop, maker space or bike kitchen. The mission is to deliver a complete, furnished and operational facility. To show visitors the possibilities with reuse, the venue should be designed using second hand, recycled and upcycled furniture and materials.
Mission: Design and plan a facility for reuse, redesign, sharing and fixing.
Client: Familjebostäder
In the Majorna district there is a facility with the potential to start a sharing, reuse and redesign centre, much like the one in Rannebergen. The real estate company Familjebostäder requests a plan for the design, preparation and operation of the facility. More information to come.
Mission: Design and prepare a space for sharing, fixing, swoping and reuse.
Client: Bostadsbolaget and others.
Design and prepare a space much like the previously described. More information to come.
Mission: Help the Swedish Union of Tenants to improve and make their share and swopping room more attractive!
Client: The Swedish Union of Tenants
The local branch of the Swedish Union of Tenants just opened their swopping room in Brunnsbo. Now they need your input as to how they can improve the operation and attractiveness of the room.
Mission: Evaluate an existing project where tenants in the Torpa district have shared tools and gardening equipment.
Client: Bostadsbolaget
Bostadsbolaget have a small operation where they let tenants borrow gardening equipment and tools in the Torpa district. The mission is to evaluate the initiative, perform a benchmark with other similar projects and come up with suggestions for improvement. This is valuable input to the other groups in the Re:Challenge.
How it works
Each mission needs a team with different competences and capabilities. The ”Returum” missions are bigger and will require larger teams than ”Redesign Brunnsbo” and ”Toolpool Torpa”. For the bigger missions, each group will need students with an interest in:
- Architecture and design – the actual design and plan
- Organisation/operation – how the facilities will operate, who will be responsible and how the continuous operation be performed.
- Social sustainability – ensure that tenants’ opinons and wishes are considered in both the design and operation process.
- Environmental sustainability – ensure that sustainable materials and procedures are in place.
- Communication & marketing – make sure that tenants are aware of the project and explore the best way to engage them.
The missions are open to all students – maybe we have missed an important aspect? Please let us know in your application!
If you want a smaller challenge, Redesign Brunnsbo and Toolpool Torpa is for you. These missions will not require as much work and will be undertaken by a smaller group of students.
